  • A day after 287 youngsters, including 24 from Mumbai, were arrested in a raid by the Pune rural police at a rave party at the Sinhagad Fort the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) identified two agents known for supplying narcotic substances at parties.

The two, Asif and Rafiq, mainly operate from the slums opposite Yerwada Central Prison in Pune and have a clientele of college students and young professionals. NCB officials say they have already passed on information about them to the Pune police. Both were also found to have supplied a part of the narcotic substances seized from a farmhouse at Gorai, when the state ATS raided it on September 24 last year.

“We had arrested them an year ago, but they were released on bail after a few months. After their release we have been receiving information that they cater to youngsters and have shifted their base to Pune. We are on their lookout,” said a NCB officer.

NCB officers said that while the ganja and bhang — made from unrefined opium and marijuana — could have been supplied by the duo at the party, the rest of narcotics were probably smuggled from Goa.

Joint Commissioner of Police, Law and Order, Arup Patnaik said: “While I have received no official communication from the Pune Rural police on this matter, I am aware that some people from Mumbai were arrested in the raid.”
