2 wanted criminals killed in encounter

The police said Ajay Singh,32,and Ashutosh Rai,30,both residents of Balia in UP,were wanted in many cases of murder,extortion and abduction. Nine months ago,they had allegedly killed the manager of Manju Singh,MLA from Sadar in Balia.
The team that chased and killed the duo was led by STF chief Naveen Arora.
According to the police,the duo had allegedly come to Greater Noida in connection with an arms and ammunition deal.
The STF team members said the police had declared an award of Rs 50,000 for anyone providing information leading to the arrest of either of the accused.
We had put their mobiles on surveillance and got the information that they were near Rajasthan,Delhi and Haryana. They had come to the Expressway near Garhi Shahadara to buy some arms from a Delhi-based supplier, a senior officer said.
When the duo came near Sector-47,the STF personnel surrounded them,the officer said.
The police said around 12 cases of murder and abduction were registered against the two.
The duo was shot dead in a cross-firing. We have recovered live cartridges,a pistol and a car. A third person who was with the accused managed to escape, the officer said.
The bodies of the accused have been sent for postmortem,the police said.
