20 more buses added to cluster service in Delhi

A fresh batch of 20 semi low-floor buses will be added to cluster bus service under cluster 2 from Wednesday. These buses will operate mainly in Central and South Delhi.

With the induction of the new fleet, the total number of buses under the cluster service will go up to 338. The new buses will operate on route no. 460, which connects Badarpur in South Delhi with Minto Road in New Delhi.

The buses will start from Minto Road followed by stops at Regal, Krishi Bhawan, Tughlaq Road police station, Safdarjung Airport, AIIMS, Safdarjung Hospital, Andrews Ganj, Lajpat Nagar, Ashram, Ishwar Nagar, Okhla Tank, Madanpur Khadar Xing, Badarpur and will end at Badarpur Border.

"A total of 133 buses will be added to cluster 2 by the end of this month. This will take the total number of buses under cluster 2 to 151," a DIMTS spokesperson said.

The buses will be parked at Kushak Nallah depot. The cluster 2 is being run by concessionaire Indraprastha Logistics Pvt Ltd.

Like all other buses under the cluster system, these buses will also be equipped with GPS, internal audio-visual announcement of approaching bus stops and electronic ticketing machines. The route and destination of each bus will be displayed externally on three electronic boards.

In 2009, the Delhi government had divided nearly 650 bus routes across the city into 17 clusters and decided to give each cluster to a private operator. Four corporate entities were given contracts to operate the services in five clusters.

The cluster bus service was envisaged to replace the Blueline fleet, which has been phased out.

Gurgaon's city service to get more buses

Gurgaon: The city bus service in Gurgaon is all set to get a booster shot. Ninety additional buses will be added to the fleet by March-April 2013. A total of 160 buses are presently plying in the town. While giving this information, a spokesman of Haryana transport department said the process of induction of new drivers was on and they are expected to take charge by March-April 2013.
