Majority of the samples of different sweets and khoya collected by the district health Depatment Ludhiana have failed to fulfill the parameters of quality.
Confirming this, Maninderjit Singh, the Chief Medical Officer, Ludhiana, said, “We sent about 25 samples of sweets and khoya to the Public Health Laboratory, Chandigarh, for testing. Today, when I enquired about the report I got to know that 20 of these samples had failed to fulfill the required parametrs of quality. As I am yet to recieve the detailed report, I can not disclose the names of shops or workshops, whose samples failed,” he further said. “After getting the detailed report, we will destroy the adulterated sweets and prosecution process will be start against the owners under “Prevention of of Food Adulteration Act.”
He said, “Meanwhile we are waiting for the remaining owners, whose sweets are lying at Kisan Cold Store, which were raided yesterday. We have sent samples of many while the remaining will be sent after taking samples in the presence of owners.”
Meanwhile, the District Health Department continued its raids and sampling today. Dr US Sooch officiating district health Officer, Ludhiana saidd, “We have collected samples of sweets from prominent sweetmakers of the city today and are sending them for testing. A team of the health department also conducted a raid at Jagraon and seized khoya and sweets.”
Dr RS Grewal, Notified Public Officer, said, “We conducted a raid at Shastri Nagar in a godown of a sweetmeat maker. The godown was in the premises of his own residence, from where we seized 15 quintals of khoya and 30 quintals of rasgullas and gulabjamuns. We have sent samples for testing.”
