2007 Blasts: HC permits Gorakhpur police to attach Baig’s property

The Gorakhpur police, which is investigating the 2007 blasts in the city, has obtained the court's permission for attachment of property of Mirza Shadab Baig, one of the accused belonging to Indian Mujahideen who is absconding.
Baig has been on the run since IM came to light in September 2008 for triggering off blasts across the country. He also carries a reward of Rs 1 lakh, announced by Delhi police. He is wanted in cases of serial blasts in Delhi, Jaipur, Ahmedabad and UP.
A senior official in Gorakhpur confirmed that they have obtained orders for attachment of Shadab Baig's property.
A native of Azamgarh's Sahab Ka Kila locality, Baig is also wanted for blasts which took place in the courts of Lucknow, Varanasi and Faizabad on November 23, 2007.
Delhi police is looking for him in the cases of two blasts in the Sarojini Nagar market on October 29, 2005 and at five different places in Delhi on September 13, 2008.
Baig was also found allegedly involved in Jaipur and Ahmedabad blasts, which took place on May 13, 2008 and July 26, 2008 respectively.
In Gorakhpur, three blasts occurred at different places on May 22, 2007 and six persons were injured. During investigation the police found the blasts were triggered by IM and HuJI men. The Gorkhpur police booked HuJI operative Tariq Qasmi and had also filed the chargesheet against him. Tariq, also native of Azamgarh, is also facing trial in UP court blast cases and is presently in jail.
The police found involvement of alleged IM operatives Salman, Saif, Atif and Mirza Shadab Beig. Saif and Salman have been arrested and are lodged in jail while Atif died in Delhi's Batla House encounter which took place on September 19, 2008.
