Raj Thackeray, who was accompanied by his wife, moved an application saying he was surrendering.

MNS Chief Raj Thackeray on Monday surrendered before the Kalyan court and was later released on bail with a surety of Rs one lakh in connection with a 2008 rioting case in which North Indians appearing for railway recruitment examination were assaulted by his party workers.

Prosecutor Ajay Misar said that the court has directed Raj not to make any provocative speeches that promote enmity between two classes of society and should not influence the prosecution witness.

The prosecution said that they would be filing the chargesheet in the case once they get a sanction from the Maharashtra government.

"Raj surrendered before the court today following the Bombay High Court directive and later we filed for bail on the grounds that the investigation in the case is complete and the police will not require his custody for interrogation," Raj's lawyer Rajendra Shirodkar said.

Don't underestimate usBy: Guru | 29-Jun-2009 Reply | Forward India has taken Maharashtra and Marathis for granted for a long time now. There is an underlying resentment within the Marathi society which will explode one day. Yes, Rajsaheb should be arrested if he has done something illegal. But what about the other politicians. How about Karunanidhi who openly called Prabhakaran his friend? Why is he still out?? If a Tamil can fight for a Tamil, then even a Marathi can. It is only hypocrisy. Don't forget the south of India is still Hindu (Tamil, Kannada etc) because of Raje Shivaji. If it wasn't for us Marathis all you Gujrati's and Tamils would be read namaj every Friday. Please don't try the Maharashtras patience and its goodwill.
Thank youBy: Jayadevan | 03-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward Oh, thank you ever so much! Zala ka? Why did you stop short? We would be happy to have more wisdom from a people who call a craven coward Veer!
Nation Divided By: Suchithra | 29-Jun-2009 Reply | Forward After all Raj thackery did what ever Italian lady is doing in the name of religion in our nation. Why to blame RAj alone.
The horrors of raj By: DR. DIVIDE | 29-Jun-2009 Reply | Forward After the arrest of Raj Thackeray the police should also arrest Ashok Singhal, Advani,Dawood Ibrahim, Uma and members of LeT from Pakistan. Even Osama -bin-Laden should be arrested and specially hanged on the highest tree in India, Pakistan or in one of the Western countries where he has spreaded awe and terror against innocent people.
Not good, RailwaysBy: Sukumar Pradhan | 29-Jun-2009 Reply | Forward Now, I urge good caring lawyers of Maharashtra to sue Railways for violating various legal norms in recruiting, shabby housekeeping (look at the railway lines early morning, for an instance), partiality in vendor licensing etc. If you want a long list, give me your e-mail address and I shall be so glad to oblige ! The next is our state government for bringing the affairs to this level. This is a very bad twist to the underlying issues at hand. Very bad. You are provoking, if anything.
