  • Mamata banerjee
Mamata, who has packaged herself as Bengal's solitary anti-establishment queen, is now presenting herself as a member of an extended Congress Parivar.

On the face of it, the 11 seats in Kolkata and its suburbs that go to polls on Wednesday — 10 are with the Left now — are all about CPM versus Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress. But the writing on the walls of this city points to a bigger script: who will be with the Congress after May 16 — and how this will draw the battlelines for the final war, the Assembly elections.

That war is far away, in 2011, but it has come to define the discourse on either side in the last days of the campaign — a clear indication of growing disquiet within the CPM.

For the first time, Mamata, who has always packaged herself as the state’s solitary anti-establishment queen, is now presenting herself as a member of an extended Congress Parivar. Virtually each poster of hers — or those of her party candidates — across the city features smiling faces of Sonia Gandhi, Manmohan Singh, Rahul Gandhi, Pranab Mukherjee and Priya Ranjan Dasmunshi.

The CPM has struck back — even using Pink Floyd.

In its posters attacking her, it has lifted the art from the 1994 cover of Pink Floyd’s last studio album, The Division Bell. It features two mysterious stone-sculpted heads and the text spells it out: don’t trust her, she can go with the Congress or the BJP.

A CPM party member said the poster was designed by a team of SFI students from Presidency College and Jadavpur University. “We are aware that many people in the city do not know who or what Pink Floyd is but the design was very appropriate for the message we wanted to convey,” state Tourism Minister Manab Mukherjee, who is in charge of advertisement and publicity, told The Indian Express. “Our message is that Mamata has two faces, which one are you going to believe?”

    ... contd.

We Must vote only for Nationalist PartiesBy: Radhey Gupta | 13-May-2009 Reply | Forward we must vote only for nationalist parties otherwise India's future is very bleak. congress and all other regional parties thrive only on poverty. These parties will remail as long as there is poverty in India. Look at BJP known as the party of the rich
Ledt By: Praveen | 13-May-2009 Reply | Forward Nothing strange. It has happened before and will happen again. CPM is criticising Congress now and will again support Congress after the elections. The writing is on the wall and political pundits can read it well. On the face, CPM is the leading member of the Third Front, but with which face, they will support Congress after ditching its allied members. And the garb will be, we are supporting Congress only to stop BJP from forming the Govt. Then, why dont you support Congress before the elections? It happens only in India.
MrBy: PSR SWAMY | 13-May-2009 Reply | Forward What about the CPM, for the public they are 3rd front, but back door they are negotiating with Congress ?????????
Tragedy of West Bengal!!By: arun kumar | 13-May-2009 Reply | Forward CPM and Mamata - "On one side is well and on other side a ditch". CPM the promoters of Bundh, hartal and mentality of "Robinhood" Rob from rich and give to poor, so rich becomes poor and poor become poorer. Main Mantra is harvest poverty - because they are the vote bank of CPM. Mamta - has no idea of management of state affairs, business and industry or even law and order. Congress is party of Zamindars with lip service to minority. Late Abdul Gani khan choudhary was the last flag bearer of Congress. After that they have a pipe smoking economist. He speaks Binglish.Future for Bengal therefore looks bleak - except for 04 days when they celebrate Durga pooja, on fifth day Devi Durga goes down the Ganges and fate of people go down in drains. Some one rightly said - What Bengal thinks today - India has thought over(India thinks tomorrow was ealier say). Lal Selam!!!
Current Eelections - Ruin of India!!!By: Rajan | 13-May-2009 Reply | Forward Kamalhasan a prominent actor denied vote - his name has been removed. There are 1000s like this - who have been removed by DMK in TN. This is the rascal Karunanidhi for you - a scounderal of a politician, with whom Sonia and manmohan have been honeymooning - that is India for you. Karuna knows the whole of Tamil Nadu wants the rascal out forever - this scounderal begged for votes and shed crocodile tears when MGR's true welfare politics kept him and his rogue sons out of office. Now this entire rogue family is not just looting Tamil nadu but whole of India - and Sonia and manmohan have been partaking the loot and facilitating too. What a Shame! The EC and President's offic eis also hi jacked - so there is no future for the Indian people.
