Like 2012, viewers can expect an impressive lineup of sequels this year too
With Munnabhai ... and Golmaal franchise striking gold at the box office, the film industry seems to have sniffed easy profits by way of sequels. Therefore, like 2012 that saw a lineup of films with Dabangg 2, Housefull 2, Raaz 3, Jannat 2, Kysa Super Kool Hai Hum, 2013 too will see a line up of 'sequel' hitting the screens.
Sequels to films like Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster Returns, Yamla Pagla Deewana 2 and Murder 3 are coming within a couple of years of the release of its original. However, Shootout At Wadala shall release after a gap of four years since Shootout At Lokhandwala while Aashiqui 2, a sequel to Rahul Roy-Anu Agarwal-starrer, a musical hit of the 90s, will see its release this year.
Though critics opine that sequels are an easy way out for filmmakers who are running short of original ideas, directors feel that it is a good way to draw audiences to the theatres. Firstly, because they are already familiar with the brand and secondly, they are curious to see what's in store in the forthcoming installments.
A look at this year's sequels...
Murder 3
Vishesh Films continues the run of their thriller series Murder, with the making of Murder 3. Interestingly, unlike the other two parts, this film will not have Emraan Hashmi in its cast. Instead, the Bhatts have roped in Randeep Hooda for the male lead. While Murder had Mallika Sherawat as its heroine, Murder 2 starred Jacqueline Fernandez in the female lead and now it is Aditi Rao Hydari who plays the female lead in Murder 3. Set for a February 15 release, it marks the directorial debut of Vishesh Bhatt, son of Mukesh Bhatt.
