Three truckloads of Commonwealth Games literature, including boxes full of tickets found on the 9th-floor office of former Organising Committee chairman Suresh Kalmadi, have been handed over to NGO Chintan for recycling. Information booklets, ticketing manuals, volunteer guide books formed part of the nearly 21-tonne scrap sent for recycling. The OC published over 2 lakh volunteer guide books for each stage of the volunteer programme. But these landed after the training programme commenced. The OC also got published letters welcoming volunteers but never dispatched them. There are several such instances in all functional areas. There was a lot of paper lying around. It surfaced only after we were told to vacate the floors, a senior official said. Currently, the OC is confined to the 7th and 8th floor of the building. The ground floor is still crowded with items that the OC has not been able to dispose of. Scrap worth Rs 12 crore is also being sold through the Metal Scrap Trading Corporation. One of the main items is the iron used to erect the 500-tonne stage in Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. All department heads were asked to give an undertaking that these papers are spare and no important record is part of them. We have given it for free to Chintan, said CEO Jarnail Singh.
