22 applicants compete for each nursery seat

The competition to secure nursery admission in city schools has increased five-fold, if the number of forms sold so far is any indication. The last date for sale and submission of forms for nursery admission 2013-14 is January 15.

On the basis of forms sold or downloaded by schools on January 1, the first date of sale of forms, there were four applicants, on an average, for each nursery seat.

The same figure has now risen to almost 22 applicants per seat. In the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) and Disadvantaged Groups category, which includes orphans, the competition has increased from three applicants per seat to almost 10 per seat.

At least 8,000 forms were downloaded for general category seats in Springdales School, Pusa Road, while 2,800 have been submitted to the school for the 75 general category seats. As many as 580 forms were given to parents under the EWS category, for 25 seats.

Bal Bharati School has sold up to 3,700 forms for 202 general category seats. The school has sold more than 700 forms for its 92 EWS seats.

The general category, however, is inclusive of management quota seats. The applicants' fate in the category will be decided according to the 100-point system. In the EWS category, admission is based on a draw of lots.

Tagore International School has sold 2,800 forms in the general category for 132 general seats and approximately 580 forms under the EWS category.

Laxman Public School, with 1,131 general category seats, has reported a download figure of 2,900 forms and 450 forms were given out in the first 12 days for 44 EWS seats.

Though the stakes for nursery admissions are not as high as those for the last session (1:50), principals are expecting a huge rush on the last two days — Monday and Tuesday.
