24 killed, 44 injured in Assam bus mishap

  • At least 24 people were killed, including women and children, and 44 others injured when a speeding bus collided with a truck in lower Assam's Dhubri district in the small hours on Tuesday.

    Official sources said the overcrowded private bus was travelling from Pagladia to Hajo at a high speed when it collided with a stationary potato-laden truck at Bengtoli Chariali under Bilasipara police station of the district at around 12:55 am.

    While 15 people died on the spot, nine others, including five women, six children, succumbed to their injuries at Bilasipara hospital.

    The injured were admitted to district hospital with condition of five stated to be critical.
