  • The tehbazari branch of Ludhiana Municipal Corporation conducted a demolition drive at Cheema Chowk on Friday during which over 250 hutments were razed.

A fish market running in the area was also removed.

The team later visited Chaura Bazar where the temporary settlements were removed. Two days ago, the authorities had warned encroachers to clear the site or face action.

It, however, needs to be mentioned here that slums have been removed in the past as well but they have re-surfaced, sometimes even on the next day.
