A 26-year-old MBA graduate has been arrested on charges of duping several persons by posing as the executive of a private bank. The accused, Ranjeet Kumar Gautam, was on bail after being arrested in a 2006 kidnapping case.
Police said a complaint of cheating had been registered against Ranjeet after a woman advocate alleged that she was cheated by a bank agent, who fled with Rs 24,000, a sum he took to "deposit it in her new account".
"The complainant alleged that she had visited the HDFC bank branch in Chawri Bazar when a man approached her and introduced himself as a bank executive. Ranjeet made her take him to her house to get some documents and get the paperwork completed. He visited her on October 11, took Rs 24,000 and escaped," ACP (Central) Devesh Srivastva said.
