  • Cracking down on yet another “obscene” late-night liquor party, the city police arrested 15 boys and 12 girls, all foreign students pursuing courses in Pune colleges, from a bungalow in Madhuban colony at Sangvi around 2 am on Sunday.

The action was taken after residents in the area complained to the police about the disturbance created by loud music being played during the party. A team of Sangvi police then raided the bungalow and stopped the festivities.

“When the police reached the bungalow, the students were found dancing in an inebriated state. Beer bottles were found in and around the house and loud music was being played on the terrace. The police have seized liquor bottles, a music system and two laptops which had blue films stored in them,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police Mahesh Patil.

Police said that 12 boys and 10 girls among the arrested are residents of Tanzania; while one each is from Sudan, Namibia, Burundi, Malawi and South Africa. The police said that the girl students got into a scuffle with the woman police constables when they were being arrested. Some of the accused also threw stones at media persons. The police have also booked the owner of the bungalow.
