In a major administrative reshuffle, the Punjab government on Thursday transferred with immediate effect 27 senior police officers to fill up vacancies and on administrative grounds. RP Singh, ADGP (Traffic) has been transferred as MD, Punjab Police Housing Corporation (PPHC), Arpit Shukla IGP (Provisioning) to IGP (Hqrs), SS Chauhan, IGP (Hqrs) to IGP (Traffic), Kuldip Singh, IGP (Crime) to IGP (Modernisation) and AS Rai IGP (Modernisation) to IGP (Provisioning). Besides, Shashi Prabha Dwivedi, IGP (Training) has been transferred to IGP (Crime), RPS Brar, IGP (Traffic) to IGP (Community Policing & Training), LK Yadav, DIG (PR to DIG/CM security) and Arun Pal Singh, DIG (CM Security) to DIG (Admn).
Terror suspect in judicial custody
Jalandhar: British National Jaswant Singh Azad, who was arrested on September 30 for allegedly funding terror outfits, was remanded in judicial custody on Thursday. He has been accused of being being associated with Babbar Khalsa International, Khalistan Commando Force and Khalistan Tiger Force, and creating sleeper cells in Punjab.
Mega education city in Mullanpura soon
Jalandhar: Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal announced on Thursday that a mega education city spread across 1,500 acre would soon come up in Mullanpura to give impetus to the quality of higher education in the state. Badal said the education city will house world-class educational institutions and universities in humanities, medicine, pharmacy and engineering.
Energy efficient street lights in state
Chandigarh: The Punjab government has introduced energy efficient street lighting project in the state with a view to improving the overall energy efficiency of all the Urban Local Bodies, leading to a substantial savings in the electricity consumption, Local Bodies Minister Chunni Lal Bhagat said on Thursday. The project would encompass the replacement of about 3.5 lakh street light points with Light Emitting Diodes (LED).
