The Lonavala city police raided a birthday party in the early hours of Thursday and arrested 29 youths, including 10 girls, for allegedly consuming liquor without possessing licence for it and indulging in obscene acts in public.
No drug or narcotic substance was found from the spot. However, the police seized nine litres of foreign liquor and a DJ system from the venue.
Police said the youths had gathered at the Second Home Bungalow in Vanrai Society, Raiwood Park, in Lonavala to celebrate the birthday of one Anshal Dhiren Thakkar (23) of Walkeshwar Road, Mumbai.
The youngsters were produced before the Wadgaon Maval Court on Thursday afternoon. Judicial Magistrate (first class) A D Lokhande remanded the youths in police custody for a day.
Police officials said among the 29 youngsters, one hails from Chennai while five are from Pune. Others, including the girls, belong to Mumbai. Police have booked them under Section 294 of the
Indian Penal Code and Section 33 of Bombay Police Act, 1951.
The police team led by Inspector Balraj Lanjile, assistant inspectors A R Gaud and A D Phadtare raided the bungalow after the residents of Vanrai Society complained of loud music being played at the party that disturbed them.
On reaching the venue, the police team found youngsters aged 20 to 25 years dancing under the influence of liquor and some were found to be indulging in obscene acts.
Though there was no drug consumption, police found that youngsters had not taken the required licence for consumption of liquor.
