The Centre will soon submit before the Delhi High Court its findings about Shahid Usman Balwa,India Director of Etisalat DB Telecom who was arrested by CBI in connection with the 2G spectrum scam, and may contest his claim that he has no links with the underworld or anti-India forces.
Official sources said the government has gathered enough information about Balwa and will submit all its findings before the Delhi High Court, which is hearing an application of the top executive of the UAE-based telecom company.
Sources indicated that the Centre is likely to contest Balwa’s claim of innocence.
On Monday, the Delhi High Court had rejected Balwa’s plea for an early disposal of his petition claiming that the Maharashtra government and Intelligence Bureau have found no evidence against him of alleged links with underworld don Dawood Ibrahim.
The Etisalat DB Telecom company, earlier known as Swan Telecom,is also facing CBI and ED probes in the 2G spectrum allocation scam.
In his application,Balwa claimed the Anti-terror Squad of Mumbai police and IB,after a thorough inquiry, have found no documents against him and despite the report the Centre has failed to file any affidavit so far.
Balwa, who was arrested by CBI last evening from his Bandra residence in Mumbai, was brought to the national capital today.
