3 dead in Uttarkhand expedition, ITBP saves 39 lives

Dehradun, September 20 : A team of Snow Commandos of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) has successfully rescued 39 trekkers, including seven Austrians, trapped on the Gangotri-Badrinath route. While three persons have died, efforts are on to rescue another three still trapped at the heights amidst bad weather.

Those rescued include noted Uttarakhand historian Shekhar Pathak and renowned photographer Anup Sah. According to ITBP officials, two groups of trekkers had begun the trek from Gangotri to Badrinath on September 11 and September 12 respectively. The first group included seven Austrain climbers, 23 porters, one guide, three helpers and one cook while the second comprised Shekhar Pathak, Anup Sah, Pradip Pande and eight porters.
