Three alleged members of a banned Naxal group have been arrested by the Special Cell. The police said the three,arrested from the Badarpur area of South Delhi,are members of the CPI (Maoist) and have been involved in several Naxalite activities in Jharkhand. After a tip-off that a commander of the banned Naxal outfit,Yogendra Ganjhu,was hiding in the Capital,a team was constituted and the three accused Ganjhu,Satish and Sheetal Kumar Singh were arrested. During interrogation,the police said Ganjhu disclosed that he is the zonal commander of the group. He has been involved in several attacks on police teams and rival groups in Jharkhand. Satish and Sheetal are his associates, a police officer said. Ganjhu,the police added,was in Delhi for treatment of a gunshot wound,and was simultaneously guiding the terrorist group. The accused were produced in a city court on Monday. The police have been granted their custody for five days. A school dropout,Ganjhu first joined the Maoist Communist Centre (MCC) in 1999 and got a .303 gun. In 2004,an encounter took place between the police and an MCC team under the leadership of one Pintoo. Ganjhu was part of the team but managed to escape, a senior police officer said. That Delhi was being used by the accused as a hideout is alarming,a senior police officer said. There hasnt been any instance so far when Naxals have taken shelter in Delhi. We are probing the matter and questioning them about their stay here and what they have been doing.
