A 34-year-old Indian woman settled in the US, who travelled with her husband and two children from the US to Pune, is the third positive case of swine flu in the city. She tested positive for the H1N1 virus on Thursday. National Institute of Virology (NIV) Deputy Director Dr M S Chadda confirmed that her throat swab sample had tested positive for the swine flu virus.
Dr R R Pardeshi, medical officer, Pune Municipal Corporation, said she has been admitted to Naidu Hospital and is undergoing treatment. As a precautionary measure, prophylactic dose of Tamiflu is being given to her husband and the taxi driver who brought them to Pune.
The woman reached Pune from Mumbai on Monday. She has relatives in Pune and Mumbai. She came to Mumbai from San Francisco, US, via Hong Kong on June 27 and stayed in the city for two days. She visited her brother-in-law and aunt’s places and then proceeded for Pune on June 29. On Tuesday morning she felt unwell and consulted doctors at Naidu Hospital who agreed for her home quarantine.
However, once her swab samples tested positive at the NIV, she has been admitted to the hospital for further treatment. “We have been able to trace the persons she and her family may have come in contact during their stay in the country,” Pardeshi said.
