Thirty-five more CCTV cameras will be installed at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport to tighten surveillance. At present, there are over 270 surveillance cameras at the domestic and international terminals of the airport — the domestic terminal has 104 state-of-the-art Internet Protocol (IP)-based cameras, with features such as high-resolution and built-in encoders, while 170 CCTV cameras are operational at the international terminal (T2). “Another 35 cameras will be installed during this week at terminal T2,” an official of the Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) said.DIAL is in charge of renovating the city airport.In the wake of heightened threat perception at the airport, especially in the aftermath of the attack on Mumbai, all security agencies have been put on alert. The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) has issued an advisory to passengers: carry identification card and be prepared for thorough security checks. A CISF official said: “We are on high alert. Installation of more CCTV cameras is part of the airport’s security expansion programme.”There are two CCTV control rooms at the IGI — one each at the domestic and international terminal — managed by the CISF.
