  • With the pilots’ strike entering its fourth day, Air India’s ticket counter wore a deserted look all day. As many as 36 Air India flights, arriving or leaving Mumbai, have been cancelled since Monday evening after 33 Air India executive pilots joined their counterparts in Delhi in the strike. Air India’s international operations have been hit at the Mumbai airport due the development. Air India operates about 80 daily flights from Mumbai.

“Nine arrivals and 11 departures were cancelled till 8pm today in addition to cancellation of 17 Air India flights till 8 am this morning,” said a Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) spokesperson. Of the 17 cancelled flights since Monday evening nine were domestic.

Passengers who have booked to fly later in the week are in a tight spot now. “We have been flooded with calls from apprehensive customers and almost all have asked us to cancel their bookings or change to other airlines. Even those executives whose companies make it mandatory for them to travel Air India have got a green signal from them to change their carriers,” said Syed Tarique, Manager, Jerry Verghese Travels.
