Surat: He confessed to having committed robberies at two courier companies

In the wake of the Terror attacks in Mumbai, the Surat police, during intensified night patrolling in the city, arrested a youth possessing four country-made pistols and 14 cartridges.

The youth, during interrogation, confessed to have committed two robberies in courier firms at Udhna, six months ago, the police said. Two of his gang members were declared wanted by the police.

According to the police, Pintu Rajput, (27), a resident of Bhaiyanagar in Puna village and a native of Uttar Pradesh, was caught under suspicion on Thursday evening.

He failed to give satisfactory answers when the police questioned him. Later, the police found four pistols and live cartridges from his possession. Rajput was arrested under Arms Act.

After preliminary investigations, Rajput disclosed that he had committed robberies in two courier firms Kantilal Ambalal Patel Courier and Rameshbhai situated at Udhna and had escaped with Rs 90,000 and Rs 1 lakh respectively. He said two of his friends had assisted him in the robberies.

Puna Gam police Sub-Inspector M K Chauhan said:

“We have found that Pintu and two of his associates had brought the country-made pistols from their native village in Uttar Pradesh. They have also confessed to have committed two robberies.”

“We suspect that Rajput also might be involved in selling country-made pistols to some other people at high rates.

We will find out the facts during his remand period,” the police added.
