India on Monday reported four new cases of H1N1 virus,taking the total number of people infected with swine flu to 63.
A 24-year-old man who arrived in Pune on June 15 from the US via London and Mumbai tested positive for the virus and so did a 23-year-old woman,who landed in Mumbai on June 19 from Melbourne,after she reported to an identified health facility with cough and fever.
The other two cases were reported from Delhi. A 25-year-old man who arrived in the capital on June 17 from the US was found carrying the virus after he turned up for screening at a health facility with complaints of sore throat. A 29-year- old woman who arrived in Delhi on June 18 from Canada via Belgium reported to a health facility with a body ache,cough and fever. Her samples tested positive.
Meanwhile,the Cabinet Secretary met officials from the National Institute of Communicable Diseases and the Indian Council of Medical Research to review the situation. The Cabinet Secretary was apprised of the number of cases reported so far. The good news is that about 30 people with the infection have been discharged after treatment. Things are under control,so no particular decision was taken in the meeting, an official said. India has tested 460 persons for the virus so far and 63 have tested positive.
