Four corporators of the Pune Municipal Corporation have made their debut in the Assembly of the 12 who tried their luck at graduating to state politics.
Those who made it are Shiv Sena’s Chandrakant Mokate (Kothrud) and Mahadev Babar (Hadapsar). Madhuri Misal (Parvati) of BJP and NCP’s Bapu Pathare (Wadgaonsheri). Some of them even say they will play a dual role, as corporator-cum-MLA. Pathare said, “I will continue as a corporator. As an MLA, I do not need to spend the whole week in Mumbai. I will be there for two days. On other days I will look after my ward.” He added, “Being an MLA means more power and responsibility. I can raise my voice in the PMC as well as Vidhan Bhavan.”
Vikas Mathkari (BJP) from Shivajinagar, Vikas Dangat (NCP) from Khadakwasla, Ujwal Keskar (Independent) from Kothrud and Deepak Mankar (Independent) from Kothrud could not make it. Four sitting MNS corporators who gave a tough fight in their constituencies, Kishor Shinde (Kothrud), Ravindra Dhangekar (Kasba Peth), Vasant Shinde (Hadapsar) and Rajendra Endal (Wadgaon Sheri) also lost.
In neighbouring Pimpri, Chinchwad and Bhosari, there were no less than eight corporators in the fray, of whom only Anna Bansode (NCP) won from Pimpri. Chandrakanta Sonkamble of RLDF lost in Pimpri. In Bhosari, four corporators had locked horns against one another: Mangala Kadam (NCP), Sulabha Ubale (Shiv Sena), Datta Gaikwad and Vasant Londhe, as rebels. In Chinchwad, Appa Barne (Shiv Sena) and Vilas Nandgude (NCP) were in the fray.
