4 of family die in road accident in Ambala

Four of a Delhi-based family, including a couple and their two children died in a tragic road mishap in Ambala district Sunday, as the car in which they were travelling from Delhi to Amritsar rammed into a stationary truck parked on the side of the highway.

The accident took place on the highway, at about 12 noon Sunday near Manji Sahib Gurdwara, Ambala city. The deceased were identified as Sachin Gupta (45), his wife Rakhi Gupta (38), their son Pratyaksh (12) and daughter Vrinda (3). According to the police, while Sachin, Rakhi and Pratyaksh died on the spot, their daughter Vrinda was rushed to the Trauma Centre of an Ambala hospital from where she was referred to the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh. She was declared dead at PGIMER. The family was based in Loha Mandi, Naraina, Delhi.

According to the police, the Gupta family was travelling in a Swift Dzire car, from Delhi to Amritsar. The eye witnesses told the police that another unidentified vehicle hit the Dzire car from the right side while overtaking it, as a result of which the driver of the Dzire (Sachin Gupta) lost control of the vehicle and rammed into the stationary truck, which was parked on the side of the highway.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police, Ambala, Ashok Kumar and Station House Officer-Ambala city police station, Inspector Ram Niwas reached the spot and supervised the rescue operation. "It was one of the most devastating accidents we have ever seen. The car got badly crushed under the rear portion of the truck, which was parked on the side of the road. We had to us a crane to first get the car out from beneath the truck and then extract the bodies out of the mangled remains of the car. Unfortunately, all the four occupants of the car passed away," one of the investigating police officers told Express.
