4 quarantined for suspected swine flu

  • Four persons were quarantined for suspected swine flu on Friday at Kasturba Hospital. A 31-year-old flight attendant, who had flown to Baharin on June 27, is among the four isolated at the hospital.

    Airport authorities on Friday referred her to the hospital after she complained of swine flu-like symptoms. The other three, including a 75-year-old man who recently visited Europe, were admitted early on Friday morning.

    The reaming two, both from Saudi Arabia, were rushed to the hospital after they complained of fever and cough. The 56-year-old driver and 37-year-old salesman had been staying in Saudi Arabia for over 11 months.

    “Throat swabs of all four have been sent to National Institute of Virology (NIV) in Pune,” said Pradeep Awate, who is heading the state health department’s influenza cell.

    Meanwhile, as many as 243 persons were admitted to state, civic and private hospitals on Friday due to various monsoon-related ailments in the city.

    As many as 134 persons were admitted for fever, 54 for gastroenteritis, one for suspected leptospirosis and 54 for suspected malaria. No deaths were reported.
