Disturbed over not performing well,an 18-year-old commerce student of Nalanda College in Gorai allegedly hanged himself from the ceiling of his room in the wee hours of Wednesday.
Senior Police Inspector Dnyaneshwar Jadhav from the Charkop police station said,Mayur Sonawane stayed with his family at Sai Kunj society in Sector 1 of Charkop. On Tuesday evening,Mayur returned from college after checking his result and told his parents that he had failed in three subjects.
On Wednesday morning,when Mayurs parents went to his room,they discovered his body. He was rushed to a local hospital where doctors declared him dead on arrival. His father,Vithal Sonawane,found a suicide note in his room which said he was very upset and hence was taking the extreme step. The note also said that he did not want anyone to be blamed for his suicide.
However,neighbours who knew Mayur claimed though he failed in three subjects,he was not depressed and neither his parents scolded him. When some children in the neighbourhood enquired about his result,Mayur said that he will reappear for the exams in October and would clear it then. He seemed very carefree and was cycling and playing with other children in the locality, said a resident.
Another HSC student,Aruna Ingawale,allegedly committed suicide in her residence in Chembur after she failed in one subject. Police Inspector Prasad Dharia from the RCF police station said,Seventeen-year-old Aruna,a student of Rai College,had apparently failed in economics and was very depressed because of it. Her parents were out of town. On Wednesday morning at 9,when Arunas elder sister Karuna had gone out and her elder brother was in the bathroom,she hanged herslef with a dupatta. When her brother came out,he saw her hanging and called for help. Aruna was rushed to a hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
In the third incident,Kishore Kharade hung himself in his room around 7:30 pm on Tuesday after he failed in four subjects. According to the Trombay police,he did not leave any suicide note. Senior Police Inspector Sarjerao Jagtap from the Trombay police station said,Kishores father,Ramdas,was at work and his mother was at home when he committed suicide. When Ramdas returned home around 8:30 pm,Kishore did not come out of his room. When the parents went in,they found him hanging from the ceiling.
Meanwhile,in Kandivali east,another HSC student jumped from his room on the 5th floor after failing his HSC exams. He suffered injuries and is undergoing treatment at KEM Hospital. Samta Nagar police officials claimed that Dharmaraj Walmike came home from college after checking his results and went to his room. He jumped from a window of his room on Wednesday afternoon. The residents rushed him to a local hospital from where he was shifted to KEM Hospital.
He is injured but out of danger as of now. Despite falling from the 5th floor,he luckily survived, said a police officer.
