Union Finance minister Pranab Mukherjee said the Centre has sanctioned an amount of Rs 40,000 crore for rural development in the country.

"I would request every state to utilise the fund on rural development properly. The fund is mainly meant for the development of health, electricity, road and other infrastructure in the villages," Mukherjee said while inaugurating a arsenic-free drinking water scheme at Lalgola in Murshidabad district.

The Union Finance minister said only six lakh people have been provided arsenic free water. More people should be benefited, he said.

Mukherjee also inaugurated a Congress workers camp at Jangipur, his constituency.

He urged Congress workers to tell the people about the different welfare schemes initiated by the Centre for the development of common people.

Need for Proper PlanningBy: Sumita | 23-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward We have enough resources however, due to poor attitude and lack in positive vision, our growth and development rate is extremely poor. WHY DON't WE PLAN TO FORM a COMMITTEE and INCLUDE MEMBERS FROM ARCHITECT AND CIVIL ENGINEERS along with members (apart from MLA) from the local region to have a practical planning and subsequently look for its implemention. Hon'ble finance minister and town/urban development minister is requested to float projects and invite applications from ARCHITECTS,CIVIL Engineers, Agricultural Speciallists and intellectuals from the local region for the committee for a period of 4 yrs for the development of village/town. Otherwise, money would be mis/un utilized and development work would be hindered. BY NOW WE SHOULD HAVE BEEN CONVERTED INTO A CLEAN AND DEVELOPED COUNTRY IF THERE WOULD BE PROPER PLANNING AND CONTRIBUTION OF THE INTELLECTUALS TOWARDS OUR PLAN.
Mirage of rapid developmentBy: Hero Vaz | 22-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward A million betterment schemes may be funded but what has to be seen is who is to disburse the funds and manage the implementation of the schemes. The netas and officials are habituated to syphoning off substantial amounts of development funds and the Rs.40,000 crores released will suffer the same fate. If the country is to truly progress, corruption has to go or else there is no hope, rapid development will remain a mirage and funds will steadily go into the pockets of scoundrels. Boasting about large funds being provided for development will only be an exercise in futility.
Priortise Urbanization of Rural AreasBy: thdsingh | 22-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward No body knows the basis of sanctioning the amount for development for the rural areas.Recently there was a report that a call center has started in a Karnataka viallage by some entreprenuer. Central Budget should add Urbanisation of Rural areas besides roads, electricity,etc.. Of course, suitable infrastructure is needed for urbanisation of rural areas by providing necessary convenience to entreprenuers. It is hoped that in face of Chinese threat in both economic and military both Center and States will take challege seriously to match development of India with that of China's. Playing game years is over, chickens have come home to roost. China is developing to become superpower and claiming Indian territory in border areas. Unless, we focus our attention to this fact and change the way we have been handling our development efforts, there is a big price may have to be paid that no one of us would like see it happens. It is Center's responsibility to defend integrity of our country.
Great FM, now show the world that Indian MPs can think too...By: CK Raju Thrissur | 22-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward FM, it is indeed great to sanction such an allocation. But what prevents your staff from simultaneously releasing the proportion of citizen population for rural and urban alongwith the proportion of funds allocation ? When over 75% of Indian population is rural and well over 40% in acute poverty conditions, wouldn't such a revelation help in making better plans ? What would roads and infrastructure mean to those facing acute hardships ? Wouldn't it be better if your ministry made concrete suggestions and forced state governments to allocate non-transferable arable land, build energy-efficient pukka houses, provide poor with wells having drinking water, subsidies for small scale own-livelihood farming along with a decent amount for contributing towards environment-friendly livelihood measures - the labour for which can be pooled from amongst the poor themselves. Let the poor help themselves first. This would be a more meaningful way to eradicate all sorts of armed conflicts in future.
RURAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMBy: NIRANJAN | 22-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward YOU CAN SANCTION TRILLIONS OF RUPEES FOR THE RURAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM OR FOR THAT MATTER ANY PROGRAM. BUT THE QUESTION IS WHAT FRACTION OF IT IS REALLY USED FOR THE PURPOSE IT IS MEANT FOR? AND HOW MUCH OF IT WINDS UP IN POLITICIANS' AND NETAs' POCKETS AND SWISS BANKS. THAT IS THE REAL QUESTION. CAN YOU ANSWER THAT MR. FM?
