The fourth Bhimthadi Jatra began at the College of Agriculture grounds on Thursday. The annual fair organised by womens self-help groups (SHGs) will run for four days.
Divisional commissioner Dilip Band,district collector Chandrakant Dalvi and mayor Mohan Singh Rajpal were present at the inauguration. The event is being organised by the Agriculture Development Trust.
Visitors can choose from a diverse menu, vegetarian and non-vegetarian. Along with several food items,preparations made by self-help groups are on display.
Visitors can buy handmade products like paintings,pots,clothes,gift items,bags etc. The Jatra is a marketing opportunity for self-help groups and a time for some brisk business. Most stalls are run by self-help groups within the district.
Last year,the Bhimthadi Jatra raked in Rs 1.38 crore from November 26-29. The total worth of the products on display last year was over Rs 3.5 crore. This year the business is expected to be higher,organisers say.
