Deputy Inspector General of Police, Doda-Ramban range, Hemant Kumar Lohia said a joint team of state police and 11 Rashtriya Rifles launched a search operation in Methwal area of Nawapachi forests falling under the jurisdiction of Marwah police station.

“During searches, the troops came under fire from militants and retaliated, killing five militants,” he added.

The militants were identified as Dodu of Kellar in Marwah, Mohammad Rajab Code Imtiyaz of Afti in Warwan, Mohammad Shafi of Bungam in Kaderan, Yasir and Junaid.

Lohia said four AK rifles, arms, ammunition and explosives were recovered from the site.

The search operation was still going on to flush out the other accomplices of the militants in the area, if any.
