5 cops arrested for extortion

The Ghaziabad SSP issued orders on Monday for the arrest of a traffic sub inspector,one traffic constable and three home guards found extorting money from heavy vehicles entering the city.

The Ghaziabad SSP issued orders on Monday for the arrest of a traffic sub inspector,one traffic constable and three home guards found extorting money from heavy vehicles entering the city.

SSP Akhil Kumar said the police had received a tip off about them extorting money from vehicles entering and plying within the city. “Rajesh Dwivedi,Sihani Gate SHO,went to ALT Chowk along with some policemen and found the traffic personnel and the home guards threatening the drivers of vehicles and taking money from them,” the SSP said.

When the police tried to arrest the traffic policemen and the home guards,one of them bit Dwivedi’s hand. “I got a bleeding finger; we had to put up with a frontal attack but managed to arrest five of them,” the SHO said.

A case has been lodged against seven persons under various sections. “Ravinder and Vivek Kumar,both home guards,managed to escape,” Akhil Kumar said. The arrested persons have been identified as Traffic sub-inspector Anurag Tyagi,traffic constable Maan Singh,and home guards Pramod Kumar,Rohit Kumar and Ajay Kumar. They were not on duty when they were caught.
