Rieterating what Amar Singh had said a day before, Samajwadi Party national president Mulayam Singh Yadav said on Wednesday that his party would have no objection in having a truck with the BJP provided it shuns issues like Article 377, Uniform Civil Code and Ram mandir. The SP leaders were clarifying their stand on poll alliances and friendship with former BJP leader and Ayodhya mascot Kalyan Singh.

However, as the statement set political circles abuzz, both parties were quick to distance themselves from such a possibility. SP general secretary Ram Gopal Yadav said “Mulayam has always argued that the BJP shed its communal agenda before the SP can think of doing business with them”. “There is no question of any understanding with the BJP at this stage or even after the polls,” he told The Indian Express.

BJP general secretary in charge of UP Arun Jaitley also “completely ruled out” the possibility of any tie-up between the two parties.

Still under attack for association with Kalyan, Mulayam said they had never given the former BJP chief minister a clean chit on the Babri Masjid issue. “Rather I would say 95 per cent of the responsibility was that of the Congress (which was in power at the Centre at that time),” Amar Singh said.

Amar Singh and Mulayam’s comments came at an informal interaction in the presence of Mulayam on the occasion of party candidate Sanjay Dutt’s visit to Lucknow. When the reporters tried to grill Dutt on the Kalyan issue, Mulayam said: “I am the party. I am its president. It was my decision to associate Kalyan with us. I am responsible for this move.”

WHERE IS THE IDEOLOGYBy: K Sundar | 20-Feb-2009 Reply | Forward I really cannot understand this Mulayam speak. If he is ready to join the BJP if it leaves out the core agenda, then he can very well join now as the BJP has long set aside its core agenda under the umbrella of NDA for the sake of power. In 1996, on the Floor of Parliament, Vajpayee impressed upon other parties to join it promising them that his party was ever willing to sacrifice its core agenda for the sake of power. Similarly in 1997, 1998 and 2004, the NDA’s agenda of governance did not have the core issues dear to BJP’s heart and even now the BJP says that it will never implement the core agenda as part of NDA. So, what for Mulayam is waiting and whom Mukthar Abbas Naqvi of BJP is fooling by claiming that BJP will never sacrifice its ideology !!
Kalyan on a MissionBy: Indian | 19-Feb-2009 Reply | Forward It seems Kalyan Singh is working like a Fidayeen and he is on a secret mission of BJP, to destroy the foundation of SP the only secular party of India. After SP is finished in UP he will be quitely taken back in to BJP fold and will again be projected as CM. Great planning BJP that you have made a fool of SP and they were very late in understanding the plot.
Your dream secular India like Saudi Arabia right?By: Vasan | 19-Feb-2009 Reply | Forward Hey 'Indian' SP is not the only secular party, you forget some others like Paswans party LJP(he wants only muslim as CM of Bihar), Muslim league (loyal to Pak) and recently formed UDF in Assam/UP for muslims. With 12% secular population in India, and almost 99% in Pak. don't talk like that. Of course you have many secular states in middle east like Saudi Arabia etc. And people like you want India to be a absolute secular state like Arabia. Recently SWAT in Pakistan became totally secular you know?
SPBy: Indian | 19-Feb-2009 Reply | Forward These power hungry politicians do not have any principles. To come to power they would change their own policies and agendas. They are shameless people, not in any way capable to govern India

SP will soon say it is open to anybody, but BJP dont want you!By: ramesh k | 19-Feb-2009 Reply | Forward BJP whatever you do, never ever think of having a truck with this untidy stinking duo of Amar singh and Mulayam Singh SP! The moment you think of making an alliance with SP, you will loose all credibility. A party with no political or moral ethics at all.
It has happened beforeBy: Vasu | 20-Feb-2009 Reply | Forward Did not the BJP ally with the SP before ? what about Kamalnath Tripathi remaining speaker of the UP assembly with a SP Government at the helm for more than two years
