Various wings of Shiromani Akali Dal have chalked out a programme to plant five lakh saplings of trees in the next 15 days to check the ecological imbalance that caused calamities like floods and droughts. This was stated on Friday by Bathinda MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal.
Harsimrat initiated the campaign by involving common people from the district. She visited schools and planted saplings with students, besides giving two saplings to each student to be planted in their homes.
She also distributed saplings of trees to farmers, daily wagers and others at Kothe Thande,Kahansinghwala,Joganand,Khialiwala,Khemuana,Har Raipur,Amargarh and Gillpati villages during her Sangat Darshan programme. Harsimrat said the recent floods were a grim reminder of fast depleting tree cover in the state.
Raninder blames govt for floods
Raninder Singh, who had contested unsuccessfully against Harsimrat Badal for the Bathinda Lok Sabha constituency, visited flood-affected areas in Mansa district. He attributed the aftermath of floods to the failure of political leadership and administrative functioning. Raninder alleged that no pre-emptive measures were taken to counter the calamity and also raised eyebrows over the distribution of relief fund by the state government. He was accompanied by Congress MLA from Sardulgarh,Ajit Inder Singh Mofar.
