  • Five members of banned outfit Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI), including two persons wanted in the Ahmedabad blasts, were arrested by the Madhya Pradesh Police from Indore late on Tuesday. They were produced on Wednesday before the chief judicial magistrate who remanded them in police custody for ten days.

A joint team of the ATS and Indore police raided a rented place in Khajrana around 6 pm on Tuesday. The police recovered objectionable literature, a recorder and CDs, but found no weapon or explosives on them.

Mohammed Shafiq alias Dadabhai and Yunus alias Umar, who hail from Ujjain, are wanted in connection with the July 26 serial blasts in Ahmedabad last year. The other three — Shaikh Sajid, Firoz and Ashraf — hail from Khandwa, and Shaikh was wanted in connection with a local case.

The five had been staying in the rented place under different names for a long time, but have been under observation for the last three months. The police claimed the literature recovered from them was objectionable but did not elaborate on what it actually contained. None of them were employed.
