Even if of the melodramatic,over-the-top variety,they at least had films occasionally pivoting around them,like Jagriti,Chhota Bhai,Mastana,Balak,Do Kaliyan and more. On the other hand,they also got that rare gift of truly good films like Haathi Mere Saathi,Mr India,Makdee,Toonpur Ka Superrhero and this weeks other release,reviewed alongside. Animation films are also a weak area in Hindi cinema (but for a few exceptions again) and live-animation blends almost non-existent,except for Toonpur . But 5Ters is easily one of the most insipid films you could hope to watch. The plot,let us admit,was interesting. During a school picnic,five children get momentarily separated from the classmates and stumble upon an angel-like figure. He wants their help to defeat his brother,who has turned evil and lives in a castle with a huge rock that supplies unlimited powers to him. The children have to combat his soldiers,destroy his nucleus of strength and end his reign so that the good is not destroyed in this world. The assorted kids accomplish this mission and find themselves magically back just in time for the picnickers to go home. Technically ho-hum despite the 2D and 3D mix,the film has very little to offer kids,either as entertainment or information. We could not figure out how the movie claims to make kids aware of vital issues like global warming and other lessons for the future benefit of the world. The childrens cast is bright,but what can they do with the poor material at their disposal? Even the dialogues have grammatical errors! Rating: One star only for the efforts of all concerned. But what about content?
