5 who died in car had gone to Vrindavan

The Aggarwal family was returning from Vrindavan after offering prayers, when their Hyundai Santro crashed into a tractor-trolley parked by the side of the road in Banchari village, Palwal, on Tuesday.

On Wednesday, during the cremation of the five members of the family, who died after the car went up in flames due to the impact, relatives said this was one of the rare occasions when the entire family had gone together to Vrindavan.

Ashok Aggarwal, his wife Manju, their son Amit, daughter-in-law Seema and grandson Shobhit died in the accident. The bodies of the five were cremated at Nigambodh Ghat.

"My brother-in-law (Amit) used to go to Vrindavan every month. Usually he would go alone, but this time he insisted that they go together. He told Seema that he wanted to take Shobhit and his parents, too. Seema refused saying that Shobhit has his exams, but he insisted," Seema's sister said.

Amit's brother Varun, who performed the last rites, said: "The incident shook our faith. How can such a religious family die such a painful and tragic death?"

He said the family was returning home after offering prayers.

Amit worked with his father and they had a business in Shahdara. The family stayed in a duplex in Rohtas Nagar, Northeast Delhi.

The central locking mechanism of the car jammed on impact and, after 20 minutes, the LPG kit exploded. The occupants of the car had no escape route, police said.
