50-yr-old businessman abducted, found shot in Delhi Cantonment

A 50-year-old businessman who went missing from Lodhi Colony on Saturday was found shot dead in Delhi Cantonment area.

Police are yet to ascertain the motive behind the murder of Chittar Mal Jain. Two persons, who Jain had befriended two months ago, have been picked up for questioning based on call record details.

The valuables and personal belongings were not found on the body, police said.

Police were informed on Saturday that Jain, a resident of Lodhi Colony, was missing. When Jain could not be traced for another 24 hours, police converted the missing person case into that of kidnap.

Jain owns several grocery stores and chemist shops in Defence Colony. He was also the vice-president of Lodhi Colony Jain mandir management committee.

Investigations led police to Delhi Cantonment area, where his body was found in an isolated spot. Police said Jain was shot in the head from point-blank range.

According to police, Jain had left home in his Hyundai Accent. His call records showed that the last person Jain spoke to was a 20-year-old man, who he had befriended over a month ago.

Sources said Jain met this man in Dhaula Kuan and had offered him a ride home. The man later started working for Jain at a monthly salary of Rs 6,000.

Police are also questioning a resident of Nangal village, Delhi Cantonment area, who runs an NGO. He met Jain two months ago. The 20-year-old suspect was a tenant at the house of NGO owner.

DCP (South) Chhaya Sharma said: "A case has been registered. The matter is under investigation."
