After remaining draped for 52 days,the statues of Chief Minister Mayawati and the stone elephants were uncovered on Sunday evening.
After completion of the last phase of polling on Saturday,the Election Commission had ordered the unveiling of these statues.
On January 8,Chief Election Commissioner S Y Quraishi had ordered the covering of all the statues of Mayawati and BSP symbol elephant in the state built with public money. The statues were covered by the evening of January 11. The CMs statues were covered with plywood and the elephants were covered with curtains and polythene.
On Sunday,the workers employed with the Lucknow Development Authoritys committee for management,security and maintenance of memorials,museums,institutions,parks and upvans unveiled all the statues and cleaned them. Lucknow District Magistrate Anil Kumar Sagar said that as per the EC order all the statues were uncovered.
After the statues were covered on January 11,Sagar had ordered that all the parks having such statues will remain closed. According to an official of the committee,the closure of the parks caused a loss of about Rs 28 lakh in terms of sale of tickets.
