Security forces killed 550 Naxals and apprehended 4,090 others in the past one decade in Jharkhand,Chief Minister Arjun Munda said today.
He said after the creation of the new state,Naxal activities in the form of killing and kidnapping for extortion and holding of ‘kangaroo courts’ went up,which is a matter of concern and the state police was being revamped to deal with the situation.
Of the 18 Naxal-affected districts of the state 14 are seriously affected but the Planning Commission-sponsored Integrated Development Programme is being executed to isolate the militants,he said.
Asked about Jharkhand’s preparations for tackling the menace,Munda told PTI “the government has chalked out an integrated programme under which state police,central paramilitary forces,central and state intelligence agencies are working in tandem.”
“To tackle Maoist menace,the manpower in all the 118 police stations of the naxal-affected areas has been doubled,” he said and added under the scheme 13,000 additional personnel have been appointed in the police stations.
