Six companies including Larsen & Toubro, Lanco Infratech, Adani Power have been declared as the qualified bidders for the 1,320 Mega Watt Rajpura Thermal Power Project in Punjab.
"Out of the seven companies, six companies have been adjudged as technically qualified bidders," a senior official of PSEB said.
The declaration was made even as the Punjab State Electricity Board is hoping to issue Letter of Intent in the first week of November.
Having invited bids for the second time, PSEB had received technical and price bids from seven companies including Larsen & Toubro Power Development, GMR Urja Ltd, Adani Power Ltd, Welspun Urja India Ltd, Lanco Infratech Power Project Ltd, Alliance Hydro Power and JSW Urja Ltd.
"However, Alliance Hydro Power, one of the bidders is not qualified for the project," he revealed.
PSEB would now open and verify the Request for Proposal (RFP) of bidders on November 3 and then after a couple of days, the successful bidder for this project would be announced.
Proposed to be awarded to developers on Build, Own and Operate (BOO) basis, the project would involve an investment ranging between Rs 5,000-6,000 crore.
The first unit of 660 MW of Rajpura Thermal Power project is expected to start in the first quarter of 2014, while the second unit would start in the next three months of operationalisation of the first unit.
