Six people, including a 12-year old boy, died and nine sustained injuries after the jeep they were travelling in collided head-on with a truck near Moriwala village on the Hisar-Sirsa highway in the early hours of Sunday.

According to the police, the jeep carrying people from Kutel and Rawal villages of Karnal district was on its way to Dera Sacha Sauda. The collision took place around 3 am. The driver of the truck, Surinder of Ratial, fled after the accident. The truck, which was loaded with paddy, was coming from Ratia in Fatehabad.

The deceased are as Ajay (12), Satyawan and Prakasho, both from Kuel village, and Subhash Chander, Subhash and Jagdish from Rawal in Karnal.

The injured are recuperating in hospital.

A case has been registered against Surinder.
