  • Metro accident
5 people were killed as an under construction Metro bridge collapsed in South Delhi.

“My successor will be decided by the Delhi government. This may not be my mistake but as the head of the organisation I have to take responsibility and I think it is right to resign.”

Through the hours between Sreedharan’s press conference and Dikshit’s statement, DMRC officials speculated on the fate of Metro projects should their boss leave, with a consensus emerging that they would almost certainly suffer. The Indraprastha-Noida line is slated to open in August, the Inderlok- Mundka line in November and the Yamuna Bank-Anand Vihar line in December.

Sreedharan, who put DMRC on the world map — Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Ireland, Syria and Vietnam have sought the corporation’s expertise — is associated with several other Metro projects in the country, including the Mumbai Metro, the high-speed railway link from Bangalore’s city centre to the airport, and Kolkata’s new Metro project.

He is also a member of the working group on urban transport including mass rapid transport systems for the 11th Five Year Plan under the urban development ministry. He was earlier on a high-profile panel that helped a Committee of Secretaries look into the privatization of Delhi and Mumbai airports.

The tragic DMRC tragedyBy: Bichu Muttathara | 13-Jul-2009 Reply | Forward The tragic DMRC tragedy killing five Metro workers and an engineer and injuring 15 after a launching girder gave way at a construction site near Zamrudpur in south Delhi on 12th July, 2009 is very inopportune and has dented the reputation of the massive and complex Metro Rail project. DMRC Managing Director E Sreedharan, though resigned within hours owning moral responsibility - which was rightly rejected by the Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit - stands to suffer from enormous image problem following the accident. The septuagenarian Metro chief, however, surprisingly recouped some of the lost land with his resignation – which is a very rare gesture today among the public servants in India. The DMRC must endeavour to get the Board of Enquiry Report as soon as possible and must earnestly implement the corrective safety measures in order to obviate repeat of such accidents which might weaken the confidence of the public in such projects of huge dimension and complexity.
Congress governanceBy: S K | 13-Jul-2009 Reply | Forward This is result of Congress cum contractor culture. Sonia from Italy is biggest contractor. Manmohan and Sheila are sub contractors. Shreedharan like people are scapegoats.Better resign otherwise remember fate of qualified honest engineers of Bihar. No body will see to your family. come out of this stinking filth.
Delhi MetroBy: Aniruddha Jog | 13-Jul-2009 Reply | Forward My dear friends, you don't see the polictics behind this?,All the metro contractors in India including Reliance are try to put a spoke in the Delhi Metro wheels, they want the MD to resign, that is exactly their plans, Mr Shreedaran is a man of integrity and that has made the Metro and Konkan railway a project of stature in the international scene, the Delhi CM knows that there are people with vested interest behind this accident, that's why she has not accepted his resignation, accepting his resignation means the end of the project completion in Delhi and else where for sure forget completion by 2010.Mr. Shreedharan please consider the CM's decision in the right frame and push on the ultimate aim should not be lost, there will alway be people trying to upset a staight man and a honest job, but then millions of common indians support your integrity and drive, don't disappoint them.
