The National Federation of Progressive NGOs was constituted on Wednesday with six NGOs from the city,Punjab and Haryana joining hands to work collectively for various projects focusing on the downtrodden and weaker sections of society.
The partnering NGOs are Sai Tara Ummat Foundation,Tushar Foundation,Jain Sadhvi Hem Kunwar Bhai Kanhaiya Trust,Sachikar Social Service Society,Live Life More Foundation,Gianwati O P Jain Memorial Trust and Scope.
The federation would be laying emphasis in fields of education,medical care as well as social upliftment. Employment generation in rural areas would also be looked into,the members stated. Chairman A K Ummat,said: There are around 100 NGOs,individuals,private schools and clubs that the Administration has enlisted under its Partnership Initiative Programme. All of these are working individually in their fields,but the results are not very encouraging. We felt a combined effort would yield better results. He added that their present area of operation would be the tricity but they would gradually start looking into projects in other states.
The organisation would also offer consultancy services to NGOs who are not a part of the federation but want guidance and counselling on any issue. Other members include Yadvinder Singh,Pankaj Arora,Dr Sandeep Jassal,Dr Deepti,Seema Arora and vice-president Bhupinder Jain.
