  • Six alleged members of the Chhota Shakeel gang were arrested by the Special Cell on Friday night. They are said to be sharpshooters of the underworld don.

Police sources said the suspected gang members were arrested from Defence Colony, South Delhi. They have been identified as Ram Shanker (from Sant Kabir Nagar), Sajid (from Roorkee), Mirza, Latif and Dilshad (all from Mumbai), and Pintoo Mandal.

Initial interrogation has revealed that the six were planning to set up a base in and around Delhi and had secured a “contract” to kill an “important person”in the Capital, sources said. The Special Cell, the sources added, acted on a tip-off and raided their hideout in Defence Colony. They were arrested after a brief encounter, sources said.

The six were produced before a city court and were sent on seven days’ police custody.

Sources said interrogation of a few arrested Shakeel associates had revealed that his aides were holed up in Loni, Ghaziabad, and other areas in Delhi’s outskirts.
