6 workers injured in blast furnace explosion

Six workers were injured,two of them seriously,in an explosion at the blast furnace at a private steel plant at Kuanrmunda.

Six workers were injured,two of them seriously,in an explosion at the blast furnace at a private steel plant at Kuanrmunda,about 30 km from here on Sunday.

The mishap took place inside the steel melting shop-II of the unit this afternoon when work in the blast furnace was in progress,causing injuries to six workers,official sources said.

While Ram Saran Yadav and Pradip Pradhan were rushed to Ispat General Hospital at Rourkela with over 60 per cent burns,the rest four injured were treated locally.

The cause of the accident was not immediately known.

Tension prevailed in the factory premises with workers alleging negligence of the management towards safety measures.
