To cater to the growing electricity demand of Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), a 66 kv sub-station with an installed capacity of 25 MVA was commissioned on Thursday.

Along with U C Mishra, chairman of BBMB, Professor KK Talwar, Director PGIMER and Sub-dean professor Amod Gupta were also present. On the occasion, PGI authorities stated that owing to the installation of state-of-the-art equipment in the existing blocks and addition of new blocks: Cardiac Centre, Advanced Paediatric Centre, Eye Centre, New OPD, Working Women’s Hostel and Nursing Institute, the electricity requirement of the institute has almost doubled.

“Prior to expansion, the sanctioned load and installed capacity of PGIMER was 10 MW and 15 MW which increased to 18 MW and 23 MW respectively. The 11 kv distribution infrastructure of the UT Electricity department is not adequate for the growing electricity demand of PGIMER,” said the PGI spokesperson.

“BBMB took up the project and has completed the construction of the sub-station, thus paving the way for quality medical treatment for the people of the region,” added the spokesperson.

The total cost of the project is Rs 11. 80 crore and is spread over a total area of 3769.701 sq m.
