The Mumbai Police are gearing up for the proposed visit of the London police for studying the strategy undertaken by them in investigating and cracking the July 11 serial train blasts case.
Speaking to The Indian Express about their visit, Police Commissioner A N Roy said, “They are interested in knowing how we went about investigating the case. It’d be an academic exercise whereby they will learn in detail about the case, the evidence collected by us and the manner in which we proceeded to solve the case.”
He, however, said the schedule of their visit is yet to be finalised. “They have asked for the dates convenient to us. We will be replying in due course,” he added. It is also not known whether the London police team would be formed by members of the Scotland Yard or the specialised Counter Terrorism Command of the Metropolitan Police, sources said.
Meanwhile, the UK Embassy here said that they are yet to receive an official confirmation in this regard. Shirin Mistry, press officer, with the embassy said, “Presently, we do not have any information about the visit. However, if the officers are visiting, we would be intimated well in advance.”
If the London police team comes down to Mumbai, it would, however, be the second instance where the 7/11 Mumbai blasts would be discussed at an international level. Last Friday, David Mulford, the USA ambassador, brought up the topic saying the USA and India had discussions over evidence and other aspects of the 7/11 blasts. Even Washington offered services of its forensic experts. Mulford even told mediapersons on Friday that India had shared evidence regarding Pakistan’s premier agency, Inter Service Intelligence (ISI) being involved in the blasts. While he also told that evidence about involvement of Pakistan-based terrorist groups were also made available to the USA.
