8 kilo gold seized at Varanasi airport

A team of Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) caught five youths this morning carrying eight kg of gold concealed in their private parts soon after they de-boarded a Sharjah flight at Varanasi airport

A team of Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) caught five youths this morning carrying eight kg of gold concealed in their private parts soon after they de-boarded a Sharjah flight at Varanasi airport.

The DRI officials took the youths to Deen Dayal Upadhyay hospital where the doctors helped them take out the gold from their bodies.

Sources confirmed that the DRI team had laid a trap following a tip-off and caught them soon after they came out of the airport around 7.30 am.

The youths,who belong to Punjab and Haryana,were questioned by officials and later taken to the hospital.

The youths revealed they were engaged in the racket for last two years and used to land at airports not equipped with X-ray machines to scan human body,the sources added.

The youths said their five aides have smuggled gold in a similar manner from Sharjah and reached Lucknow by another flight today.
