The Police have come across some important clues in the recent tragedy in Ahmedabad in which five people died last month after consuming a chemical cocktail.
According to the police, 800 litres of methanol carrying the fake tag of Lakshmi Chemicals was brought to Ahmedabad via Surat through the national highway, a few days before the incident.
The Ahmedabad Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) said the supplier, Khojin, is from Mumbai |and he had sent two drums of methanol to Gujarat.
Based on the tips received during the interrogation of Maz and Hozefa, the two arrested last month for supplying methanol to Sameer Kasab alias Zakir, the DCB arrested Khojin. The police said Khojin had played a key role in getting methanol to Gujarat.
Two drums of methanol were bought from Prayosha Chemicals in the Chakla area of Mumbai. The first consignment reached Ahmedabad on August 13 and the second on August 21, said DCB.
DCB Inspector Vinay Shukla said: “Maz and Hozefa had gone to Mumbai to collect methanol which is freely available there as liquid for spray. They spoke to one Ayub at Mohammad Ali Road who gave them the contact of Khojin who supplies methanol to all Mumbai-based perfume dealers and even outsiders. Khojin took two drums of 400 litres each from a store called Prayosha Chemicals and handed them over to Maz.”
DCB officers said Khojim made forged bills of a fake company called Lakshmi Chemicals to evade checking at the highway tolls in Gujarat.
